It is best to try out a class in the beginning to be able to learn the correct way to do the pilates exercises.
Another great alternative exercise is belly dancing. Again this type of exercise focuses on the core area with plenty of work for the abdominal muscles. Belly dancing can be fun and a great way to spice up a work out. There are classes, videos and books you can use to learn about belly dancing and to use for working out.
